2023年8月5日，西泠春拍在杭州成功举槌，现场拍卖了当代艺术品。本次拍卖的重要拍品之一是颜文樑的《日月光华》，被市场认为是唯一的杰作，也是估价最高的作品。这件作品顺利易手，最终以1940万元的价格落槌，成交价为2231万元。
颜文樑一生钟情于诗词，并喜欢将诗意融入绘画之中。《日月光华》以海上残夜与江春旧年交织的意象为基础，描绘了日月轮回、新旧交替的景象。同时，他借用了沈周的《记雪月之观》中的诗句描述，“是夜月出，与雪争烂”、“月映清波间，树影滉弄，又若镜中见疏发，离离然可爱”，创作了这幅宏大的作品。
《日月光华》的两幅作品呼应着诗意的对仗，构图相似，场景近似，日月相映，冷暖对比。画面的水平线处还保留着一致的炭笔分割线痕迹，证实了画家在创作之初就将其设想为一对“姊妹作”，因此，这份巨制作品成为了民国油画中实证遗存的无可争议的证据。
